Homemade Coriander Powder

Updated: Aug 2, 2020

A great way to learn to make your own spice powders at home. You can use the same technique to make cumin powder or make a special jar of your own blended spice powders.

Homemade Coriander Powder

Ingredients:

1 cup coriander seeds

Method:

Dry roast 1 cup of coriander seeds. Dry roasting is a technique used to bring out the flavor of your ingredients without cooking them. No oil is required in this process. Using medium heat, dry roast the seeds until golden brown. Once you can smell the aroma of the seeds, you can turn off the heat.

An important tip is to maintain a low to medium heat, staying close by to avoid over burning the seeds. If the seeds get too roasted and dark, the flavor of the final powder will have a bitter aftertaste.

Make sure you cool down the seeds to avoid any moisture buildup before you grind them in your spice grinder.

Dry grind your seeds to the consistency you want. If you would like coarse ground powder, then the choice is yours to do so.

Another important tip to do is to cool your ground powder again either in the jar or in the stored bottle before closing the lid. There is a small amount of heat generated when grinding and to avoid clumping or any moisture buildup, let the spice mix cool down.

It is best to make a little jar at a time, to ensure that you always your spices do not lose their aroma.
